Climate Action Network Eastern Africa convenes civil society across the region to build power for climate justice, racial and social equity, and a just transition.

Climate Action Network Eastern Africa (CAN-EA) is an Eastern African Non-Governmental Organization that works to convene Eastern African Civil Society voices to effectively build power by addressing climate issues, racial and social injustice and their impacts in the Eastern Africa region, as well as Africa by extension.

The Network has over 200 member organizations operating at regional, national and local levels. The main aim of the Network is to assert African leadership and strengthen grassroots voices across the Eastern African region and adding value to global efforts in building climate resilience through amplification of the voices at continental and international levels especially through AMCEN, ACW, AU and UNFCCC.

Our Vision

To build an inclusive movement working for climate justice and human rights, that amplifies the aspirations, concerns and priorities of vulnerable/impacted communities in the Eastern Africa region.

Our Mission

To coordinate bottom-up approach and amplify voices with grassroot supported evidence from our members and stakeholders for advocacy at national, regional and international bodies for enhanced climate resilience and just transition.

Part of the global Climate Action Network

CAN-EA is a recognized CANEA Node — part of the worldwide Climate Action Network, the largest coalition of civil society organizations fighting the climate crisis together. As a Node, CAN-EA engages international climate negotiations at continental and global levels, ensuring Eastern African voices are represented in spaces like AMCEN, the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), the African Union, and the UNFCCC process, including COP.
